Every Sunday, during my morning cafecito (or mate), I’ll share three powerful ideas transforming culture. Some ideas will be ads or about advertising. Some may be about design or fashion. Others will be about art, illustration, animation, motion, audio, cinema, books, or any other big idea worth sharing and discussing. You get the idea.
IDEA 1: 100 years of not dying
Volvo just turned 100 and instead of making a celebration film, they made a reel of firsts. Every innovation stacked into a single argument: obsessed with safety since 1927. No fanfare. Just proof.
This is what a centennial campaign looks like when your brand has actual substance. Most brands celebrate anniversaries by talking about themselves. Volvo celebrated by reminding you how many times they chose your life over their brand.
IDEA 2: The Pour-igin of Species
The Pudding asked a ridiculous question — does the animal on a wine label predict its quality? — and then actually answered it. 1,488 wines. 16 animal categories. Data-viz that earns every scroll. The verdict: buy fish. Avoid frogs. Birds are solid. Pigs will let you down. The lesson for any brand publishing content: give the data a personality or don't bother publishing it. 10/10.
IDEA 3: Humanimal Tourism
Tourism boards sell places with waterfalls, food, and smiling locals. ProColombia and DDB did something smarter — they let the animals make the case. The insight: if species travel thousands of miles to get here, you can book a flight. Animal migration data as destination proof. No voiceover needed. A Cannes Lions 2025 winner, which tracks — juries reward ideas that are both simple and slightly obvious. The best ones always are. 10/10.
